Shreveport, Louisiana, (May 8, 2026) – The National Association of Gospel Radio is deeply concerned about the continued erosion of protections once guaranteed under the Voting Rights Act and the growing wave of actions across several states that appear to diminish fair representation for African Americans and other minority communities.
For decades, the Voting Rights Act stood as one of the nation’s greatest civil rights achievements, helping to ensure that every citizen—regardless of race—had equal access to the ballot box and equal opportunity for representation. Yet today, we continue to witness redistricting efforts and map changes that disproportionately impact Black communities, particularly throughout Southern states, raising serious concerns about fairness, equity, and inclusion in our democratic process.
If America has truly moved to a different place regarding race and equality, then the electoral maps being approved across this country should honestly reflect the populations, diversity, and voices of the people who live within those states. Representation matters. Diversity matters. Democracy works best when every community has a fair and meaningful seat at the table.
As an organization rooted in faith, community, truth, and justice, the National Association of Gospel Radio cannot remain silent while many citizens feel their voices are being minimized or excluded. Gospel radio has always served as more than entertainment—it has been a trusted voice in the Black community, a source of information, empowerment, advocacy, and hope.
Therefore, we are calling upon every member, partner, affiliate, listener, and supporter connected to the National Association of Gospel Radio to use their voices and exercise their power through civic engagement.
We encourage our communities to:
• Vote in every local, state, and national election
• Stay informed on issues impacting representation and voting rights
• Use social media and public platforms to advocate for fairness and equality
• Support organizations and initiatives working to protect democratic participation for all people
Additionally, the National Association of Gospel Radio will be engaging more intentionally in social justice moving forward. We are calling upon our Vice President of Government and Faith-Based Affairs, Carl Davis, to begin connecting our organization with national and local groups working to promote civic participation, support inclusive democratic processes, and advance equitable access to civic engagement opportunities throughout this nation.
We believe America is strongest when all voices are heard—not just the voices of a majority, but the voices of every community, every culture, and every citizen.
As people of faith, we pray for unity, justice, wisdom, and courage. We remain committed to using our platforms responsibly to inform, empower, and uplift our communities while standing for principles that reflect fairness, dignity, and equal opportunity for all.
